The campaign has received mixed reactions, with some viewers criticizing the concept.
Sydney Sweeney’s Christmas campaign has drawn criticism
Sydney Sweeney has faced criticism over a new SYRN lingerie campaign that recreates characters from popular Christmas films. The actress unveiled the holiday collection in a social media video on Wednesday, October 21, featuring looks inspired by Kevin McCallister from Home Alone and Cindy Lou Who from How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
The opening scene draws on the familiar image of Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone. Sweeney sits in a chair wearing a sweater and short shorts, eating ice cream as she watches television. The next clip references Cindy Lou Who from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. With her hair styled in the character’s signature braids, Sweeney carries presents in a blue plaid nightgown and a short cape with fur.
The video later shifts to the lingerie collection, showing Sweeney in various sets. Some users were unhappy with the campaign, criticizing its use of childhood movie characters to promote lingerie. One user wrote, “Dressing up as a child character in lingerie is definitely a choice syd!”
A third comment read, “Is she actually turning Cindy Lou, the [purest] sweetest child into a s** symbol!?!? Fire that creative director and get a brain Sydney Sweeney.” Meanwhile, a fourth user noted, “The rest are so cute! But I think the Cindy Lou is in poor taste…” However, a few others defended Sweeney, with one writing, “Beautiful lady in a good video. Haters heads are exploding.” Another added, “why would you get upset over this tho it’s a lingerie ad?”
