Ramona Singer Calls Reality TV ‘Fake’ Years After Racism Controversy

Ramona Singer has some thoughts about how reality TV has changed since her RHONY debut in 2008. According to the longtime Housewife, today’s shows can feel much less authentic. Her comments come ahead of her return to television on The Golden Life. The E! series reunites Singer with several former Real Housewives of New York City castmates.

Ramona Singer calls modern reality TV too “fake” ahead of her RHONY reunion series

“I think when we first started, [reality TV] was a little more lighthearted,” Ramona Singer told Us Weekly. She added that shows now sometimes become too focused on “drama” and being “fake.”

Singer believes her longtime friendships with her former RHONY co-stars set them apart. She described the relationships as genuine, despite the arguments viewers have watched over the years.

“We are real friends,” Singer said. She noted that the women can fight badly but eventually make up and resolve their problems.

Those relationships will take center stage on The Golden Life. Singer reunites with Luann de Lesseps, Sonja Morgan, Dorinda Medley, and Kelly Bensimon for the new series. A recent trailer showed the RHONY veterans slipping back into their familiar dynamics while starting a new chapter in Palm Beach.

Singer’s television return follows several turbulent years away from RHONY. In 2023, she faced backlash over allegations that she had made racist comments during her time on the Bravo show. Singer denied the allegations.

The controversy intensified after Singer used a partial racial slur while texting a reporter about the claims. Variety reported that she would no longer attend BravoCon that year. Reality Tea also covered her removal from the event at the time.

Now, Ramona Singer says she has learned to embrace the fame that once frightened her. With The Golden Life, she is returning to reality TV alongside women she insists have nothing “fake” about their friendships.
