Phil Mickelson recently entered an addiction treatment center as he deals with personal and family issues. The professional golfer sought help for addiction and family trauma, according to his representative. He has already left the facility after receiving treatment.
Phil Mickelson seeks treatment for addiction months after misconduct allegations
Mickelson’s representative told TMZ Sports that he “was seeking treatment for family trauma and addiction.” The golfer recently entered the facility and has since completed his stay. His team previously addressed a private family health matter in June. They said his priority was to become “the husband, father, and man his family deserves.”
Mickelson has also been open about his longtime struggle with gambling addiction. In 2023, he said his gambling had moved beyond moderation and into addiction. He also said that he had sought professional help for years. According to his comments, the habit had affected his personal life.
The treatment comes months after several sexual misconduct accusations involving Mickelson made headlines. Golf Digest first reported an allegation that he made “nonconsensual and inappropriate physical contact” with a female employee at a San Diego golf course. Ashley Perez, the former wife of golfer Pat Perez, later alleged that Mickelson showed her a picture of his erect penis in 2015. She also stated that he propositioned her while she was still married to Pat Perez.
Mickelson responded to the report by calling the article a “drive-by shooting.” His wife Amy publicly supported him after the allegations came out. She later appeared without her wedding ring. Mickelson’s representatives have not shared further details about his treatment, keeping the family matter private.
Mickelson’s recent decision to seek treatment comes as he focuses on dealing with addiction and family trauma. For now, he has left the facility and continues to keep his private family matters away from the public.
