Alan Ritchson just revealed exactly why his favorite Jack Reacher book will never make it to screen. The Reacher star hinted that a major political shift derailed an already-approved adaptation of Lee Child’s Die Trying.
Alan Ritchson says Die Trying had been approved before an apparent change in direction
Alan Ritchson revealed that Prime Video had approved an adaptation of Lee Child’s Die Trying before scrapping it. The Reacher star posted on Threads that “someone” getting reelected derailed the project. “My favorite book,” Ritchson wrote. “Fun fact: I had it approved until someone got re-elected.”
Die Trying, published in 1998, is the second novel in Child’s Jack Reacher series. The story follows Reacher and a politician’s daughter after a radical militia kidnaps them. The militia plans to hold her hostage as part of an effort to secede from the United States.
Ritchson has emerged as one of Trump’s most outspoken critics in Hollywood. The actor previously implied on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that Trump should face prison time. He cited Trump’s association with convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during that July appearance. “That b—h has the keys to the nuclear codes,” Ritchson said. “He’s like all up into 13-year-olds. Like, dude, what? Go to jail.”
Conservative fans of the show first clashed with Ritchson over a resurfaced 2020 photo. The image showed him wearing a shirt reading “Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor.” He later addressed the moment with The Hollywood Reporter, calling it “a tragic case.”
The White House responded to Ritchson’s criticism through spokesperson David Ingle. “Alan Ritchson is a talentless hack who clearly suffers from a severe and incurable disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome that has completely rotted his peanut-sized brain,” Ingle said (via The Daily Beast).
Meanwhile, the upcoming season of Reacher will adapt Make Me, the 12th book in Child’s series. That story follows Reacher as he helps a private investigator search for her missing partner.
