Robert Pattinson Delivers a Chilling Chris Hansen Performance in New Primetime Trailer

A new Primetime trailer showcases Robert Pattinson‘s chilling performance as Chris Hansen. The trailer drops days after Pattinson’s performance captivated critics at the Venice Film Festival. Primetime, which highlights events from the life of the To Catch a Predator host, will hit theaters on September 25, 2026.

The official logline of Primetime reads, “In 2006, To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen sets out to make television history.”

What to know about Robert Pattinson’s Primetime

A24‘s Primetime follows the story of television journalist Chris Hansen, who founded the show To Catch a Predator with Dateline NBC in 2006. Hansen monitors online chats to identify adults who contact minors and engage in sexual conversations.

The host then sets up a sting operation against these predators, catching them red-handed on Dateline NBC. Apart from this, the upcoming movie also focuses on Hansen’s behind-the-scenes struggles as a journalist.

Lance Oppenheim is directing the psychological crime thriller, marking his feature film directorial debut. The movie had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month. As of now, it holds a 94% Tomatometer score from 33 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Although Primetime has already gained some early success, it was previously slammed by Hansen, who called the movie “much darker and way more dramatic.” Moreover, Hansen was denied entry to the VFF premiere because the journalist refused to sign an NDA before the screening.

Apart from Pattinson, the movie also stars Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Phoebe Bridgers, Matthew Maher, Bokeem Woodbine, Jessica Hecht, Jonathan Lipnicki, Tony Revolori, Creed Bratton, Alex Winter, and Sean Bridgers. Anna Faris also has a small role in the movie as Mary Joan Hansen, the main character’s wife.

Ajon Singh wrote the screenplay for Primetime based on a 2007 Esquire article by Luke Dittrich. Pattinson also served as producer for the project, alongside Ari Aster, Fred Berger, Tyler Campellone, William Iannaccone, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Lars Knudsen, and Brighton McCloskey.
