Selma Blair’s upcoming psychological horror Dead at 27 just got a filming update. The movie explores celebrity obsession and the music industry’s darker side, and it has finished production.
Dead at 27 highlights modern society’s fixation on fame, validation, and celebrity, with a reclusive music star at the center of its unsettling story. Directed by K. Asher Levin and aimed at Gen Z, the movie follows a pop icon who re-emerges in the spotlight with a captivating new sound that quickly captivates her fans. As she gains influence in underground music scenes and internet culture, her fans’ devotion to her begins to take increasingly disturbing turns.
Alongside Blair, the cast includes Sierra McCormick, Logan Miller and Dylan Playfair. Dead at 27 also features recording artists Iann Dior, Tommy Genesis and Kya Hansen, known professionally as Bludnymph.
Who else is starring in Dead at 27 with Selma Blair?
Sierra McCormick, known for The Vast of Night and American Horror Stories, joins the cast alongside Logan Miller, who has appeared in the Escape Room franchise and Love, Simon. Dylan Playfair, meanwhile, is recognized for playing Reilly in Letterkenny and Gil in Disney’s Descendants films.
Iann Dior, Tommy Genesis, and Kya Hansen are part of the project as well. They are involved not only in acting, but also contribute to the film’s original soundtrack, which K. Asher Levin and Theresa Wayman wrote.
Levin worked on the screenplay with Zack Imbrogno and also serves as a producer. Ashleigh Snead, Henry Boger of Freefall Films, and Michael May are producing alongside him. Blair and Iann Dior are among the executive producers, along with Andile Ndlovu and Jasmine Pears. Dead at 27 will be another collaboration between Levin and Snead, who previously worked together on Pathetic Fallacy. That project featured Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, Jessica Rothe, and Natasha Lyonne, and premiered at Fantastic Fest.
With filming complete, Dead at 27 is now in post-production. The release date and distribution details are yet to be announced.
