Filmmaker Joshua Giuliano, who directed the horror short Vampire, has announced his new horror movie, Occupant. The project follows his feature debut River, which recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
According to Deadline, Joshua Giuliano will write and direct Occupant for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, Divide/Conquer, and Spooky Pictures. Focus Features holds worldwide rights and has set Universal Pictures International to handle the film’s international distribution.
The movie’s plot details are currently being kept under wraps. Jason Blum, Greg Gilreath, Adam Hendricks, and Steven Schneider will produce, while Daniel Bekerman, Derek Bishé, Neil Mathieson, Allie Steffler, Sam Zimmerman, and Jeremy Kulyk will executive produce.
What else has Josh Giuliano made besides Vampire?
Giuliano’s biggest project besides Vampire is River, which is also his first feature film. The horror movie premiered as the opening-night film of TIFF’s Midnight Madness program and stars Jane Levy, Jessica Rothe, Max Mattern, and Dane DiLiegro.
River follows three siblings who reunite after their father’s death. They travel by boat to scatter his ashes at his favorite spot, but the trip turns into a fight for survival when they become stranded.
Before making River, Giuliano directed several horror shorts. One of them was Vampire, a three-minute short released through Crypt TV in 2017. It follows a man who visits a blood donation center and discovers a terrifying secret.
He also made another short, In Sound, We Live Forever, which helped inspire River. Midnight Madness programmer Peter Kuplowsky specifically pointed to the short as a way to see the style Giuliano brought into his feature debut.
Joshua Giuliano’s Occupant does not yet have a release date.
