Angelina Jolie was entering a new chapter, while her sons were choosing paths beyond Hollywood. Maddox Jolie-Pitt pursued piloting, while Pax Jolie-Pitt balanced photography with an interest in film.
The actress discussed their careers as all six children reached adulthood. She also opened up about motherhood, Atelier Jolie, humanitarian work, and life beyond Los Angeles.

Jolie discussed Maddox, 25, and Pax, 22, in her September 9 L’Officiel USA cover story. Both sons had worked as assistant directors on films. “I think if you have any interest in working on film, you need to be a part of the crew and do the hard work and know all the different departments,” Jolie told the publication.
“They’ve worked on a few films that way,” she said. “Maddox is focusing on being a pilot, and Pax has his photography, but I think he does have an interest in film.”
Jolie previously discussed Maddox’s aviation plans on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “I am a pilot,” she said. “And my son Maddox is training to be a pilot too. He, actually, he is a pilot now.” Pax already had film experience. PEOPLE reported that he shot stills for First They Killed My Father. He later handled behind-the-scenes footage for Without Blood, starring Salma Hayek.
Jolie took pride in her children’s independence. “They’re definitely individuals,” she told L’Officiel USA. “That makes me very proud, because one of the most important things, I think, is to basically not get in their way.” She also emphasized her role as their mother. “Obviously it’s nice for me to be around them, but I am just Mom, wanting to be around her family.”
Her next chapter looked increasingly international. She planned humanitarian field work and wanted Atelier Jolie to expand overseas. Brazil, Vienna, and Cambodia emerged as potential locations.
Meanwhile, Without Blood marked her fifth directorial feature. The Salma Hayek and Demián Bichir film examined life after war. Jolie recently visited Rwanda with Pax and Shiloh. They met the Legacy of War Foundation and women working on farms. She also continued refugee advocacy independently after leaving her former UN envoy position. Her Maddox Foundation remained focused on conservation and community development.
