Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s inner circle reportedly react strongly to King Charles’ letter. For those unversed, King Charles issued a letter via the top palace official, Lord Chamberlain, clarifying that the Sussexes will remain private citizens. Additionally, they confirmed that Harry and Meghan cannot carry out royal engagements or use their royal titles. Notably, this comes a couple of weeks after the Sussexes shifted back to the UK for an extended period.
The Sussex inner circle reacts to King Charles’ letter, sources reveal
According to the Express UK, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s inner circle slam King Charles’ letter. A close friend hit back, stating that the Duke of Sussex can “never be an entirely private citizen.” The friend commented that branding the King’s youngest son as a “private citizen” was “utter nonsense.” The friend added: “They are two of the most high-profile people in the world. The idea that Harry, who is the King’s son and brother to the future King, could ever live an entirely private life is for the birds”.
However, those in the royal family’s support lauded the King’s decision, which essentially stops Harry and Meghan from taking advantage of their royal status. A day after the letter was made public, a spokesperson shared that they were a little “surprised” by the King’s statement. Not only that, but they also shared that they had not been informed in advance.
Royal sources subsequently told the BBC that Harry and Meghan were made aware of the letter before its public release. Separately, Rob Shuter reported that King Charles issued the letter upon Prince William’s insistence. The Prince of Wales was reportedly furious upon learning that Harry and Meghan had come back to the UK. William reportedly urged Charles to release an official statement to clarify the confusion regarding the Sussexes’ royal status.
A royal source stated: “William had had enough of the confusion. Lord Lieutenancies were asking how Harry and Meghan should be treated. William’s answer was brutally simple: nothing has changed. They are out.”
