Royal commentator Richard Eden believes Meghan Markle could learn a thing or two from the newest addition to the royal family, Harriet Phillips. Harriet, who recently married Princess Anne’s son, Peter Phillips, has reportedly received a warm welcome from the royal family.
Expert says Harriet Phillips can teach Meghan Markle about “tact and diplomacy”
Royal commentator Richard Eden believes Meghan could learn from Harriet’s approach to royal life. Harriet’s 17-page interview with Hello! magazine was published while King Charles and Queen Camilla were on their Caribbean tour.
Despite the timing of the interview, the royal family reportedly has no objections to it. According to the Daily Mail, a source said, “No one is remotely bothered about the interview. Not only are the couple low-key, but it’s a very positive article, focusing on her charity work.”
The report contrasts Harriet’s interview, which focused on her charitable work, with interviews by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which have often addressed their experiences and grievances involving the royal family.
Like Prince Harry, Peter is a non-working royal who generally maintains a low public profile. However, Peter is 20th in the line of succession to the British throne, while Harry is much closer to the throne. According to Eden, Peter’s relatively low profile may explain why Harriet’s interview attracted less attention.
In her interview, Harriet also spoke warmly about Catherine, saying, “I can look to Catherine for advice and guidance. She’s very open-hearted, and I would always feel comfortable asking her if I needed advice about something.” The former NHS nurse also discussed her work with the charity Home-Start Cotswolds.
According to royal commentary, Harriet has taken a different approach to her position within the family than Meghan did after marrying Harry. Harriet has reportedly received a warm welcome from royal family members, including Catherine. Meanwhile, reports of tensions between Harry and Meghan and Prince William and Kate Middleton continue.
Eden also discussed the royal couple’s appearance at the Royal Foundation Forum in 2018. This is where Meghan took a prominent role just three months after her engagement to Harry.
The comparison has led to suggestions that Harriet’s approach to royal life could offer Meghan a lesson in tact and diplomacy.
