Garret Dillahunt Drops a Truth Bomb About His Shocking Lanterns Nude Scene

Garret Dillahunt had a surprising moment in the latest episode of Lanterns. The actor stripped down for a scene that pushed him outside his comfort zone. Dillahunt later admitted that the experience came with some nerves. Still, he says the cast helped make the unusual day on set enjoyable.

Garret Dillahunt opens up about the Lanterns scene that made him nervous

During the Sept. 6 episode, Dillahunt’s character, William Macon, meets Hal Jordan and John Stewart at his ranch. William then asks John, who has artistic talent, to draw him while he poses nude on his desk. Dillahunt told PEOPLE that he felt nervous before filming the scene. “Of course I was nervous. I thought those days were long past,” he said.

Dillahunt explained that he had appeared nude in plays and other projects earlier in his career. However, he still felt he needed to prepare for this particular role. “My character is sort of unusually fit for a guy my age,” he explained. Dillahunt said he thought, “I better try to get unusually fit,” and did his best to prepare before filming.

Thankfully, the actor said his co-stars made the experience easier. “Everyone was funny and cool and we had a decent time that day,” he told the outlet. Dillahunt added, “The scene works. If it didn’t work, I think I’d have different feelings about it.” His costar Poorna Jagannathan, who plays Zoe Macon, jokingly said, “We just laughed at him.”

Dillahunt also said his past comedy work did not necessarily prepare him for Lanterns. He did, however, praise the cast for their sense of humor and said comedy should be incorporated into drama more. Lanterns follows Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate mysterious crimes in small-town Nebraska. New episodes air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and stream on HBO Max.
