Jimmy Kimmel may not be planning to leave late-night television anytime soon, but one family member already has her future mapped out. The comedian recently revealed that his daughter, Jane, is convinced she will eventually inherit “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”.

Jimmy Kimmel recently shared the amusing family story during an appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. He explained that his 12-year-old daughter firmly believes she will one day host his long-running late-night program.
According to Kimmel, Jane became emotional when Jimmy Kimmel Live! was temporarily taken off the air in September. Shepard recalled that she cried because she believed “her show” was going away.
Jimmy Kimmel joked that he found her reaction “annoying and presumptuous.” He then explained that Jane had never even discussed the idea with him. Instead, she simply assumed she would take over the family business one day.
Kimmel shares Jane and 9-year-old son Billy with his wife, Molly McNearney. The couple married in 2013. He also has two adult children, Katie and Kevin, from his previous marriage to Gina Maddy.
The late-night host also recalled telling Jon Stewart about Jane’s ambitions. Stewart laughed and said his own son once believed he would inherit The Daily Show. Stewart remembered his son even questioning who Trevor Noah was after Stewart stepped away from the program.
Kimmel also shared another memorable conversation with Jane involving his public disagreements with President Donald Trump. He recalled telling her that she would eventually realize they had been “on the right side of history.” Jane quickly replied, “I thought we were on the left.”
While Jane may already picture herself behind the famous desk, viewers will not see that happening anytime soon. Jimmy Kimmel Live! has continued with guest hosts during Kimmel’s summer break, including Anthony Anderson, Jelly Roll, and Rosie O’Donnell. The longtime host is expected to return soon, meaning Jane’s dream job will likely have to wait.
