Jon Stewart’s Daily Show Future Gets Good & Bad News

A recent report details Jon Stewart‘s potential future as the host of The Daily Show. Stewart originally hosted the series from 1998 to 2015 and later returned to serve as guest host on Mondays in 2024. He later renewed his deal with Paramount.

Jon Stewart is yet to extend his Paramount contract

According to TheWrap, “a company insider” has told the outlet that Paramount wants Jon Stewart to return for Comedy Central’s The Daily Show after the iconic comedian’s current contract with the conglomerate expires. This comes after Semafor published an article on Sunday, claiming that The Daily Show has an “uncertain future” at Paramount.

The latter outlet further reported that while there was a “strong interest” from Paramount in renewing Stewart’s contract ahead of the upcoming general election, the concerned parties haven’t yet signed a contract.

Semafor also reports that Paramount executives view Stewart and The Daily Show as two of the key elements in maintaining Comedy Central’s continued relevance. The other is South Park, another staple Comedy Central series that debuted on the network back in 1997.

Moreover, TheWrap cites the aforementioned insider to report that Paramount considers The Daily Show a “centerpiece” for Comedy Central along with South Park. Citing Paramount’s Nielsen data, the publication also reports that The Daily Show has found considerable resurgence this year.

It scored its strongest second-quarter performance among adults aged 18-49 in nearly a decade, while recording its most-watched second quarter across all viewers for the first time since 2018. The series also garnered seven Emmy nominations across its franchise this year (via Paramount).

Notably, the current timeline for the contract renewal is not particularly extraordinary. After all, Stewart and Paramount didn’t ink their last deal until November 2025. However, concerns persist about the legendary comic’s future at Comedy Central after Stephen Colbert’s exit from CBS, after Paramount scrapped The Late Show.
