Wanted Man, 24, Tries Hiding Beneath a Mattress Before Cops Arrive

Sometimes the police catch suspects in the most embarrassing of places. That’s what happened in Florida when cops found a 24-year-old wanted man trying to hide underneath a mattress as police stormed a residence. Suffice it to say, they found a sizeable bump coming from the middle of the bedding.

Suspect yelled for his mother’s help during arrest

On August 15, officers received information that 24-year-old Serge Nombre, a man who had an active warrant for felony battery, was at a residence on 5th St SE, according to a post by the Winter Haven Public Safety Department on its official Facebook page.

Officers first encountered his mother, 53-year-old Mia Jones, who told them that her son wasn’t around, though she permitted them to search the place to see if that was the truth. In one of the bedrooms, they found a mattress on the floor “with a large lump protruding from the center.” The mattress was lifted to find Nombre hiding underneath.

As if the situation couldn’t be more humiliating, the man then began crying out for his mother for help. Jones ran into the room and grabbed an officer from behind. She continued to struggle with the police, grabbing the hand of the female sergeant on scene and swinging her fists at the officer. That led the sergeant to deploy a taser twice against her before the mother complied.

Both Jones and Nombre were promptly arrested and taken into custody. While Nombre was booked at the Polk County Jail for his outstanding warrant, Jones was first taken to Winter Haven Hospital. While she was being treated, however, a plastic baggie that tested positive for meth was found underneath her breast.

Jones was later booked in the same jail as her son. She has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting officers with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, and assault on a law enforcement officer.
