Activist and actor Elliot Page has opened up about the intense fear he felt before stepping into the role of Sinon for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Rather than battling physical demands, the actor wrestled with two issues.

Page traced the anxiety back to early talks with Nolan. The director had crafted Sinon from scratch as the character never existed in Homer’s original epic. This creative freedom came with a mandate: Sinon would force Odysseus, and by extension the audience, to stare directly at war’s devastation.
“The character I play in this is actually not originally in The Odyssey,” Page said on The Daily Show. “So for me, the focus was really on being able to capture him in these few scenes and hopefully make Chris happy.”
Host Desi Lydic insisted Page succeeded, calling the performance the “heart and soul” of the movie. Page nodded, admitting that very label explained the pre-shoot jitters. Nolan wanted Sinon to function as a living conscience, confronting the hero with uncomfortable truths about brutality and loss.
Elliot Page described the director’s clarity as both inspiring and nerve-wracking. “Getting to work with someone like Chris, who obviously just has such impeccable vision and execution,” he said. “Those were the initial conversations I had with Chris about this character and Sinon being this sort of consciousness of facing Odysseus and the impacts of war, the brutality of war and violence.”
The actor wanted nothing more than to deliver on that vision. “And so I think I was terrified and just wanting to make sure I did an OK job, you know, and pulled it off in the movie. But it was the good kind of nerves,” Page added.
Nolan’s The Odyssey stormed to a $264 million global opening weekend. With a cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Samantha Morton and Zendaya, the epic has secured both box office dominance and widespread critical praise.
