John Leguizamo predicts The Odyssey will be remembered as part of cinema history
Actor John Leguizamo recently sat down with People and shared a prediction about the legacy of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Leguizamo played one of Odysseus’ most loyal allies, Eumaeus, in the movie.
The actor shared his experience working with Nolan on the epic and stated that the movie was a “beautiful gift to the world” from the Interstellar director. He even described the movie as a “piece of art.” Leguizamo spoke about the impact The Odyssey will have on cinema and said, “I think it’s going to be for cinema history. I just think the script that Nolan wrote is so powerful, so timely, an anti-war picture in this era. It feels like it’s so important that I hope it gets all the love it deserves.”
Leguizamo also praised his co-star Matt Damon, with whom he’ll work next on the untitled film from directors Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan. He conveyed his excitement about reuniting with Damon, calling him the “coolest, funniest, realest dude” he’s ever worked with.
Leguizamo also said that he is ready to work with Damon on a third project if he is down to “tolerate” him.
The Odyssey has so far earned over $1.7 billion at the global box office and has become the highest-grossing R-rated film in history. Domestically, the movie has made over $620 million, and its international collection stands at over $1.1 billion (via Box Office Mojo). Leguizamo is also expected to appear in a prominent role in the upcoming movie Miami Vice ’85.
