Whoopi Goldberg ended up missing the recent episode of The View after the July 4 weekend. Besides her, Ana Navarro and Sara Haines were absent from the panel. The hosts were absent due to weather-related problems, with Goldberg providing video evidence.
Whoopi Goldberg missed The View because of volcano
Whoopi Goldberg skipped the Monday episode of The View due to a volcano. We had Joy Behar joining the panel in the absence of Goldberg, Ana Navarro, and Sara Haines. “You may be asking, ‘Why am I here on a Monday?’ I asked myself the same question,” Behar hilariously said. The 83-year-old continued, “But [executive producer] Brian [Teta] begged me to come in. Begged me on his knees where he belongs. Why? Because we are down three cohosts today.”
She also explained the reason behind the absence of Goldberg, Navarro, and Haines. Behar shared that Navarro is facing weather delays in Miami. “It’s always hot there. What’s the problem?” Behar joked. The comedian further talked about Haines and Goldberg. “Sara [Haines] is dealing with storm damage. How many people are dealing with storm damage? Anybody in this group? No? Just Sara,” Behar said. She added, “And Whoopi [Goldberg] is using the old volcano excuse.”
Later, the show played a pre-taped video message from Goldberg from Italy. “I am in Sicily right now, and Mount Etna, which is one of our active volcanoes here in Italy, decided to go off today,” the Ghost star said. She added, “We have spent most of the day trying to get back to the United States, and all of the airports are closed here, so I will be back as soon as I can. I know we got all sorts of stories about our different vacations.”
The 70-year-old continued, “Well, I think my story takes the cake. A volcano ate my homework. Moreover, in her Instagram story, Goldberg expressed gratitude to the staff at the Maniace Boutique Hotel in Ortigia, Italy, for taking good care of her in this situation. As of now, it’s not confirmed when Goldberg and other co-hosts will be back on the panel.
The View airs on ABC.
