Sunny Hostin Calls Kelly Clarkson ‘Petty’ Over Brooklyn Store Footage

The viral feud between Kelly Clarkson and a Brooklyn store has become the center of a surprisingly heated celebrity dispute. New surveillance video from the store has reopened the debate, and the panel on “The View” did not hold back either, with Sunny Hostin admitting the footage changed her perception of Kelly Clarkson’s complaint. She even likened the singer’s behavior to a “tantrum”.

For context, Clarkson has claimed that an employee at Art of Play treated her as though she could not afford a singing automaton bird she wanted to buy. The shop’s owner has since shared his side of the story.

He said the store was crowded when she arrived and that “she was dressed like everybody else.” Staff, he added, treated her like a normal person. He added that his employees now fear for their safety.

Hostin was candid about her own shift in thinking. She had first wondered what the fuss was about, since it was only a bird.

However, viewing the footage “did change my perspective a little bit,” she said. She also noted that Clarkson was not in the store for long and began putting items back quickly. In her words, “it seems like she kind of had a bit of a tantrum.”

Hostin also stressed that a large platform brings responsibility. She could not imagine that Clarkson was unaware of her own social media following, and how it feels to be subjected to the “rage machine,” pointing to the repercussions of fan behavior. She then spoke of Clarkson’s post on Twitter, and finally described the singer as “petty.”

Panelist Ana Navarro offered a wider view. Anyone with a massive following should expect that “there’s probably going to be repercussions” after a tweet, she said, and fans may “take it a step further.” What surprised her most was how long the story had lasted.

Haines closed the discussion with a call for calm. Someone has to put the weapon down, she said, and she felt the store should do so. Her suggestion was simple: say your piece, express regret that it happened, and invite the singer back.
