In a conversation on Kareem Rahma’s internet talk show Subway Takes, Lopez said that she doesn’t consider breakups a failure but rather a “launchpad” to become one’s best self. She added, “We should have a party when we break up. People should say, ‘You broke up? Congratulations.’ Because one, you made a decision. Two, it was probably the best thing for everybody.” She believes that the one who faces a breakup is actually a “winner” compared to the ones who go around breaking hearts, whom she considers a “loser.”
The singer-actress also believes that most learning comes after the heartbreak. “I just feel like the biggest growth spurts I’ve had emotionally, mentally, psychologically have always come from a heartbreak. And that’s not just in romantic relationships; that’s in work heartbreaks, all of it. It’s the only time you dig,” she elaborated. Lopez stated that heartbreaks give you the time to self-reflect and to bring changes to be better.
Earlier this year, Lopez broke the silence on her split with Affleck, citing that she took a year off to deal with things rather than to run away from them. In this time, she spent some time with the kids and tried to figure things out on her own.
“I’m in my happy era. I feel like, for the first time in my life, I’m free. I’m on my own. And it feels really good. I didn’t really know what that felt like since I was in my early 20s, and even before that, I’d always had a boyfriend. There was always someone in my life, and so many other things that I felt were out of my control,” she said previously, referring to where she stood following the split on GMA.
