Liam Neeson’s Next Movie Project Isn’t What Fans Expected From Action Star

Academy Award nominee Liam Neeson‘s next movie project has finally been revealed. This comes nearly a year after the Taken vet starred in the action comedy film The Naked Gun, which received a Fresh score of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.

What is Liam Neeson’s next movie project?

According to Deadline, Neeson has officially signed on as an executive producer on the upcoming drama film Ages of the Moon, which will be led by Steve Buscemi (The Big Lebowski). This is different from Neeson’s usual genre since his most recent movies were primarily action. Production on Ages of the Moon has already wrapped up in upstate New York. It is based on the 2009 play by acclaimed playwright Sam Shepard.

“The story follows two heartbroken lifelong friends — Ames and Byron — as they reunite at an isolated cabin. Over too many glasses of bourbon, they confront their shared past. While the two keep drinking and wait for a rare lunar event, old grievances, outrageous escapades, and macho rivalries explode to the surface. Throughout, they laugh and shed tears, exploring the depths of an intimate bond that ultimately takes a violent, emotional turn,” reads the official synopsis.

The upcoming film is directed by Aidan Quinn, with Oren Moverman writing the screenplay. In addition, Quinn is also co-starring alongside Buscemi. Besides Neeson, it is also executive-produced by Beth Hamlin of Evergreensky, Dean Jankelowitz, Ron Goldman, Derrick Tsang, J. Todd Harris, J.R. Heffelfinger, and Moverman. Producers are Quinn, Buscemi, Michaela McKee, Wren Arthur for Olive, John Harris for Country Mile, and Eyal Rimmon. The movie is expected to feature a country music soundtrack.

“My involvement with Ages of the Moon starts with Aidan Quinn. Getting to work closely with my good friend of many years was reason enough to sign on,” Buscemi said in a statement. “The fact that it was a Sam Shepard two-hander was icing on the cake. Challenging for sure, and a dream come true.”

Quinn added, “So thrilled to have completed the shooting of Sam Shepard’s Ages of the Moon and to co-star with my old friend, the legend, Steve Buscemi. Also, to work with the masterful Declan Quinn, who paints with light as our DP. I’m so excited for the edit.”
