Why Scary Movie 7 Is Still Likely Despite Huge Box Office Drop

The odds of a Scary Movie 7 happening remain high. Despite a box office drop from the recently released sixth movie, fans should remain optimistic.

Following the release of the new parody horror film, Scary Movie 6 has had a great time at the box office, all things considered. The latest entry in the franchise opened to $55 million domestically, and a whopping $105.5 million globally. However, its second weekend saw the movie only earn $14.5 million, a massive 73.3% drop from its weekend debut. It’s a real far drop, but shouldn’t leave fans too worried about another film.

Scary Movie 7 feels like a safe bet after its stellar opening

While the massive drop off was a huge one for Scary Movie 6, the film can already be considered a massive success. The Scary Movie film series hadn’t seen a new entry in 13 years, dating back to the 5th movie in 2013, which was critically panned despite a good box office return. Many wondered if a sixth film would be popular at all despite the long time away and general disdain for parody movies amongst audiences nowadays.

Scary Movie 6 tells us otherwise, though. Even though the film had a rough second weekend, the opening of the movie was more than enough to convince Paramount to dive back into the parody waters. The movie, to date, has earned over $170 million, which has out-earned 2022’s Scream, which the movie mainly parodies. Not only that, but it’s also on pace to become the third-highest earning Scary Movie in the franchise, all but assuring another one comes.

Besides the box office results, the word of mouth of Scary Movie has been quite good. Despite bad critical reactions, fans loved the film. Talks of a sequel have already been underway as well, signaling that Paramount believes in the Wayans brothers to deliver a solid enough opening weekend in the future to offset any potential drops.
