Two variant heroes will interact in Avengers: Secret Wars, per a new rumor. The upcoming MCU film launches in theaters next year and will expand upon the narrative which will be established in its predecessor, Avengers: Doomsday. Additionally, both are expected to wrap up the Multiverse Saga and lay the groundwork for the next overarching storyline.
Reed Richards could interact with his variant in Avengers: Secret Wars
Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards could meet a variant of his, The Maker, in Avengers: Secret Wars, according to a new rumor.
This comes from scooper James Mack, who shared it on X (formerly Twitter). However, he said that he had no information on whether a new actor, Ioan Gruffudd, Miles Teller, or John Krasinski — the latter three of whom essayed Richards in the past — would play the variant.
Gruffudd played him in the Tim Story Fantastic Four films released between 2005 and 2007. Meanwhile, Teller took over the role in the critically panned 2015 reboot by Josh Trank. Finally, Krasinski played the character in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
While plausible, since the film explores the multiverse, there is no official confirmation. Accordingly, fans must wait until the movie comes out to find out for certain.
Notably, this rumor comes nearly two years after a report suggested Marvel had plans to feature Gruffudd’s Richards in both Doomsday and Secret Wars.
In the comics, the Maker originated in the Ultimate Marvel universe (Earth-1610). Initially, a heroic figure like his mainstream counterpart, his morality would decline following a series of tragic events, including the Ultimatum and Sue Storm’s rejection of his marriage proposal. Developing a god complex, he dedicates himself to improving the world via extreme means. Consequently, he becomes an enemy of his former Fantastic Four teammates and other former allies.
However, as his descent into villainy grows, he expands his mission to include other universes. As a result, he comes into conflict with alternate versions of himself and heroes from other universes.
Meanwhile, Avengers: Secret Wars premieres in theaters on December 17, 2027. The Russo Brothers will direct the film from Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely’s screenplay.
