Chris Evans’ Oscar Outfit Draws Insane Avengers: Doomsday Speculation

Chris Evans has drawn a lot of attention at the 2026 Oscars. He engaged in playful banter with Robert Downey Jr. The duo presented the Best Original and Adapted Screenplay categories. However, Evans’ black suit also sparked speculation among fans, with one sharing their thoughts on how it teases the appearance of an evil version of Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday.

Avengers: Doomsday fan thinks Chris Evans’ suit reveals an evil Steve Rogers

Content creator Matt Ramos (Supes) noted on Instagram that Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. wore specific suits, teasing their roles in Avengers: Doomsday at the 2026 Oscars. He first pointed out that RDJ represented Doctor Doom with his dark green and black suit. Ramos then turned his attention to Evans’ outfit, a black tuxedo, claiming it’s where the “real message lies.”

He brought up Evans’ history of wearing blue suits at the past Academy Awards to represent Captain America. He had been playing the character at the time. The YouTuber subsequently suggested that while RDJ was representing Doom, Evans was representing the villainous Captain Hydra.

Ramos shifted attention to Evans’ sunglasses on the Oscars red carpet. He noted their dark green color and speculated that Evans was teasing Captain Hydra’s alliance with Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.

The content creator backed his claim by bringing up the rumor suggesting Doom would have his own team working to help him reach his goal, in a similar manner to Thanos’s Black Order in the Infinity Saga. Ramos concluded by speculating that RDJ and Evans’ on-stage Oscars reunion may not have been about teasing Doom and Rogers’ conflict in Doomsday. Instead, it might be about teasing Doom’s collaboration with Captain Hydra.

While the veracity of Ramos’ claims remains to be proven, it can’t be denied that the main MCU timeline Steve Rogers is returning in Doomsday, as confirmed for the film late last year via the first character teaser. In this regard, Captain Hydra could likely be a variant of the main Rogers.

Alternatively, the black suit could also tease his Nomad attire from the comics in the film. Previously, Avengers: Infinity War loosely drew inspiration from this, with a suit lacking the signature stars and stripes. However, with Earth-616 Rogers now a man out of time, and Sam Wilson being Captain America, he could embrace the Nomad identity in Doomsday with a full black suit.

Avengers: Doomsday premieres on December 18, 2026.
