Weeks after Nancy Guthrie’s suspected kidnapping, the case remains unsolved — and social media users are now targeting FBI Director Kash Patel for the delay.
Over the weekend, Patel showed up at a joint FBI-UFC training session in Quantico, Virginia, where photos of him signing pictures of himself started circulating all over the internet. Many people observing the Guthrie search raised questions, setting off a new wave of criticism calling for more regular updates from the FBI.
Kash Patel slammed over unsolved Nancy Guthrie case weeks after kidnapping
The Nancy Guthrie kidnapping case remains unsolved weeks after the 84-year-old vanished from her Tucson-area home, bringing all attention to FBI Director Kash Patel.
The Daily Beast reported that Patel handed out autographed photos during the FBI-UFC event at the FBI Academy. A LinkedIn post from U.S. Air Force member James Swann showed Patel seated at a table with a Sharpie, with one signed photo visible.
Swann described the interaction, writing, “Had the opportunity to meet and talk with the Director of the FBI, Mr. Kash Patel.” He added, “He is a humble individual who speaks highly of his agents and the people around him. I enjoyed our conversation sir.”
Online, some people believed that the moment looked out of touch with a high-profile missing-person case still unfolding. Several posts on X (formerly Twitter) aimed their frustration directly at Patel, with user @MK92139735 writing, “Where is the Press Conference with Kash Patel and the Updates on Nancy Guthrie. Is this a serial perp that will strike again please update update the community!!!!”
Meanwhile, @princegregorous added, “Nancy Guthrie been missing 40 days now and Kash Patel out here doing side quests.” At the same time, @cmills4370 wrote, “So Kash Patel is in charge of finding Nancy Guthrie? I believe the local FBI would be responsible along with other local law enforcement.”
Per The Daily Beast, Patel has faced other public heat during the investigation. This included questions last month after a video showed him celebrating with the U.S. men’s Olympic hockey team overseas — and all in all, the public wants to hear more via clear briefings that explain where the case stands and what investigators need next.
