Trump made the announcement in a Truth Social post, praising Leavitt’s tenure and confirming she would step back from the podium to focus on her family. “Karoline has been a real leader in the White House, and has done a phenomenal job fighting for Justice, Liberty, and Freedom, since 2018,” he wrote. Further, adding that she would remain one of his “top outside advisors” and an “influential voice within the Republican Party.”
Leavitt’s exit adds her name to a growing list of senior officials who have left Trump’s second administration this year, following the firings of former Attorney General Pam Bondi and ex-Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, along with the resignations of former Labour Secretary Lori Michelle Chavez-DeRemer and acting ICE head Todd Lyon.
Reactions on X (formerly Twitter) have largely converged around a few recurring themes. One user asked, “Is she the leak for the plan swap story?”, referencing recent reporting on Trump’s Air Force One decoy arrangement.
