The investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s alleged abduction has revealed that the ransom notes were reportedly written by two different individuals. Gary Brucato, a forensic psychologist, believes the notes point to two different authors with distinct motives.

Brucato said the first note showed signs of an intelligent person who demanded millions of dollars in cryptocurrency. He claimed the second note came from someone more emotional who stated that Guthrie had died and was “buried in nature,” reports The New York Post.
Brucato made the comments to NewsNation journalist Brian Entin on July 31. He said, “These two ransom notes… do suggest to me two different people who are perhaps experiencing some kind of rupture in terms of their attitude about what happened.”
Brucato explained, “The first one is demanding money and the second one is undoing the ability of the first person to get money, which suggests to me that the first person would’ve been kinda mad that the second person wrote the note. There’s something going on in the dynamic that’s causing a rupture, and yet for some reason no one has come forward.”
According to NBC News, a first note sent to the CBS affiliate on February 2 mentioned a white smartwatch lying near the foot of Guthrie’s bed and a damaged backyard floodlight. The note demanded $4 million in bitcoin, with a deadline of February 5.
The second note sent to a Tucson news outlet on February 6 alleged that Guthrie had died shortly after she was taken. The note read, “We believe it was heart-related. She is buried in nature now. Nothing you could have done could have changed the outcome. We want your family to know this and hope you all can find peace. We are truly sorry.”
Brucato believes three individuals could be connected to the case and suggested that the masked person seen on Guthrie’s porch was not one of the note’s authors. He believes that the person was not responsible for writing the notes but was hired to create the impression of an outside agent. Brucato believes the porch figure’s motive was “probably money.” He added that the second note’s author may have had a different motivation, though he did not specify what it was.
Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie, was last seen on the night of January 31 after arriving home from dining with family in the Catalina Foothills, Arizona. Surveillance footage from her home showed a masked individual, and authorities discovered her blood at the location. No arrests have been made, and investigators have not reported any new leads. According to the BBC, the family has offered a $1 million reward for information, alongside a $100,000 reward from the FBI.
