Taylor Swift Faces Setback as Travis Kelce Heads Back to Chiefs

Taylor Swift encounters some frustrating news as fiancé Travis Kelce heads back to the Chiefs. After months of speculation over his impending retirement, ESPN published a report confirming Kelce’s return to the Chiefs for his 14th NFL season. However, it appears that in the meantime, Swift is facing some setbacks.

Taylor Swift’s trademark delayed, claims report

As per Heavy.com, Taylor Swift’s trademark is delayed as Travis Kelce heads back to the Chiefs. Swift enjoyed massive success with her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl. TAS Rights Management, LLC, tried to register “The Life of a Showgirl” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). However, the USPTO issued a suspension notice because Marin Wade had previously registered the trademark “Confessions of a Showgirl” in 2015.

Notably, Wade is a cabaret performer and author with a show in Las Vegas. As per the USPTO, the trademark covers blogs, magazines, live stage performances, theatrical productions, and television programming. The title is linked to Wade’s cabaret production, a stage show inspired by her Las Vegas Weekly column and her career as a performer.

Since Wade and Swift both use “showgirl” in their titles, the USPTO paused Swift’s application as it could possibly create a “likelihood of confusion.” In simpler words, the application has not been rejected but simply paused to ensure these similar-sounding phrases don’t cause an issue later (via USA Today).

In December 2024, Harlem Brands Inc. filed an application to register “Showgirl” as a fragrance brand. Notably, Harlem filed its trademark before the “Opalite” crooner filed hers. The USPTO will now thoroughly examine Harlem and Swift’s trademark applications before passing a judgment.

Previously, the global pop star appealed against the use of the “Swift Home” bedding brand name. Bedding company Cathay Home filed the trademark for its signature bedding items in late 2025. Swift’s team argued that Cathay Home had used her signature style of writing, which may mislead her fans into thinking she is endorsing the brand (via BBC).
