Jack White has always been frank about his opinions. However, it now seems he is setting the record straight after sparking a wave of online chatter. The musician recently responded to backlash over remarks he made during an interview with The Guardian. Many fans actually interpreted his comment as a dig at Taylor Swift’s music. This totally prompted ardent fans to debate what he really meant. Now, it seems like White is clarifying his comments and addressing the fans’ reaction head-on.
Jack White defends himself after receiving backlash for comments about Taylor Swift’s music
During his interview with The Guardian, Jack White was asked how he writes his lyrics and whether they are personal and autobiographical. He denied and exclaimed, “It’s become popular in the Taylor Swift way of pop singers writing about their publicly aired break-ups, which I don’t find interesting at all.”
He continued, “I think it’s a little bit boring for me to write about myself. Even if I’ve had a really interesting day, I feel like I’ve already lived that; I don’t need to go through it every time I sing this song. White added, “If it’s something really painful, I’m not going to put this important, painful thing that I went through out there for some idiot on the internet to stomp all over.“
Unfortunately, Swift’s fans took this to mean he called her music “boring,” which led to major backlash.
However, he defended it recently, in a social media post. He wrote, “I didn’t say that I think Taylor Swift’s music was ‘boring’ or whatever clickbait the net is trying to scrape together. White added, “What I was trying to say in an interview I did about poetry and lyric writing was that I don’t find it interesting at all for ME to write about MYSELF in my own lyric.”
