New Wikipedia Gacha Game Lets You Collect Pokémon-Style Trading Cards

Pokémon fans can rejoice as the new Wikipedia gacha game lets users collect Pokémon-style trading cards. An interesting new browser game called Wikigacha converts the entire Wikipedia database into a collectible card game with assigned rankings. Wikigacha is modelled on Japanese gacha video games, where players exchange money for random characters or items.

Wikipedia users can collect Pokémon-style trading cards with new game

Wikipedia users can own Pokémon-style trading cards inspired by the hugely popular 90s anime. Wikigacha is available in English and Japanese, and users can click to get digital booster packs containing five random cards. Every card will have a different Wikipedia article printed on it (via Forbes).

Unsurprisingly, high-quality articles with profound information translate into rarer cards. WikiRanks assigns a quality score to Wikipedia articles based on how many times they have been viewed and cited globally.

In simpler words, users can find high-quality information on these cards instead of their favorite Pokémon character. Users can hold one new pack every minute, but only ten packs at a time. However, users can earn extra packs of cards through daily missions or by watching ads. The cards can be classified as common, rare, super rare, super special rare, ultra rare, and finally, the legend rare.

Not just that, once the user opens ten packs, the next pack will definitely contain at least one highly wanted, rare card. Fans can use these cards to indulge in friendly competition with other Wikipedia card collectors and battle in player-vs-player matches. Each card has ATK (attack) and DEF (defense) points, and, unsurprisingly, the rarer the card, the greater the advantage for the user.

Based on online fan reactions, users are enjoying collecting Pokémon-style trading cards. One fan commented, “bro, look who’s just shown up in my pack. I even got a new achievement from this LMAO.” A second fan wrote, “I’ve gotten some cool cards, but pulling Hideo Kojima tops every other card I’ve pulled so far, even Angry Birds.”

A third fan remarked in Pokémon style, “Dihydrolipoyllysine-residue succinyltransferase, I choose you!” Finally, one fan penned, “That’s actually a pretty decent idea, turning knowledge into a game. I would think of something and build as well. In the meantime, shout out to the creators!!”
