Jim Carrey’s rep responds amid clone theories
Jim Carrey‘s publicist has dispelled all rumors surrounding the actor’s appearance at the 2026 Cesar Awards. Speaking with PEOPLE, the rep strongly denied all speculations suggesting that The Mask actor may have been replaced by an “impersonator” at the event in Paris.
“Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award,” Carrey’s rep declared in a statement made on March 2, just a few days after the award ceremony took place. Additionally, a delegate from the Cesar Awards has also weighed in on the rumors. They detailed Carrey’s preparation to attend the show, where he was accompanied by his family.
The statement by Carrey’s publicist comes shortly after photos and videos of the actor’s appearance at the awards went viral. Many fans noted that the star appeared noticeably different. Some even suggested that he might have been an impersonator.
The rumors were further fuelled when the popular makeup artist Alexis Stone claimed that he transformed into Jim Carrey at the show. He posted on Instagram on March 2, sharing images of a hyper-realistic mask of the actor’s face. Stone also shared several Instagram Stories from Paris as well as a high-definition digital scan of Carrey’s face.
Amid the speculations and conspiracy theories, many fans came to Carrey’s defense. They stated that he looked similar to how he had when he attended the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony a few months earlier. The statement by Carrey’s rep appears to have put the rumors to rest as well.
Jim Carrey appeared at the 51st Cesar Awards in Paris on February 26 to receive the lifetime achievement Cesar d’honneur. The actor delivered a heartfelt acceptance speech entirely in French, thanking his family and paying tribute to his late father.
