Ethan Hawke says Maya Hawke is inspired by Sydney Sweeney

Ethan Hawke revealed Sydney Sweeney inspired his daughter Maya for a special reason. Hawke revealed that his 17-year-old daughter texted him, saying she wants to watch the new Sweeney-starrer, Christy. Hawke confessed they had “one of the best nights in a long time.”

Hawke revealed that the movie is “fantastic” and that his daughter is “so inspired” by Sweeney. The Blue Moon star’s daughter told him, “Dad, see, this is what you don’t understand. This woman is the best fighter in the United States of America, and it is still virtually impossible to get out of a toxic relationship. That’s what so many women are against, Dad.”

The 55-year-old actor continued, “She was really, really inspired by your character and your performance. And she was like, ‘Now that is a great performance.’ She had never seen anything like the relationship between you and Ben Foster, so complicated and multifaceted and so many things at once. And she’d never seen such a complicated portrait of a male-female dynamic.”

Hawke continued talking about his daughter’s reaction to Christy and lavishing praise on the 28-year-old actress. He said, “I’m so grateful to you and your collaborators who made that movie, and so is my daughter. And she wanted me to tell you that.”

A visibly touched Sweeney replied, “Well, tell her thank you.” Hawke added, “She’s impressed (Maya Hawke), and she’s really glad that you told that story.” The Euphoria alum sweetly responded, “That is so beyond kind, and I’m so glad you had that with your daughter.”

Furthermore, Hawke shared that his daughter is the “captain of her soccer team,” and so “women in sports is really important to her.” Sweeney asked if Maya knew Christy’s story before she watched the film, and Hawke revealed that she had no clue. It was only halfway through the movie when the father-daughter duo found that it was based on a true story.
