Ebay Has Been Hacked, Users Must Change Their Passwords

Bad news, everyone: Ebay has been hacked and now everyone with an account on the site needs to change their password.

Ebay will send out a letter confirming the attack today, but the company has said that it has not compromised any financial details of users of the site. Credit card details are also believed to be secure.

The attack was made when hackers gained access to Ebay’s password database. Ebay posted a message on its corporate site regarding the incident, saying: The database, which was compromised between late February and early March, included eBay customers’ name, encrypted password, email address, physical address, phone number and date of birth.

“However, the database did not contain financial information or other confidential personal information.

“Extensive forensics subsequently identified the compromised eBay database, resulting in the company’s announcement today.”

Ebay has urged users to change their passwords, which should be a given, really.
