Fox Plans Remake For The Rocky Horror Picture Show

40 years ago, The Rocky Horror Picture Show was theatrically released and it steadily built a cult following that continues to the present day. But in Hollywood, nothing escapes the remake craze… not even The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Deadline is reporting that Fox is planning a two hour “event special” remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show which has a “cast-contingent order.” That means that the project will go forward if the producers are able to get Fox’s approval on the casting choices.

Spearheading The Rocky Horror Picture Show remake is executive producer Gail Berman, Lou Adler (who also produced the 1975 theatrical version) and Kenny Ortega, who is also set to choreograph and direct the remake for Fox 21 TV Studios.

This isn’t the first time that a Rocky Horror Picture Show remake has been attempted for television. Berman tried to set up an adaptation in 2002 when she was Fox’s Entertainment President. Fox tried again in 2013 when current Fox Entertainment President David Madden attempted to push it through to the network as a producer. A Rocky Horror Picture Show remake was also briefly attached at MTV in 2008.

According to the report, the dialogue and the songs from The Rocky Horror Picture Show will be relatively intact, but the story will be “greatly reimagined… visually.”
