Robin’s Parents Move To ‘Gotham’

In just a handful of episodes, “Gotham” has bent over backwards to introduce major and minor characters from the Batman mythos. And apparently, even Robin is making an appearance of sorts… through his parents.

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, “Gotham” showrunner Bruno Heller teased a “prenatal Robin” appearance this season.“There’s an episode coming up where we learn how Robin’s parents got together.” But since Robin shouldn’t exist for a few years in this timeline, Heller added that “There are no MRIs involved.”

Although Heller didn’t mention them by name, Robin’s parents were John Grayson and Mary Elizabeth Loyd. After marrying, John and Mary found a measure of fame circus acrobats known as The Flying Grayson. When their son, Dick Grayson was a child, he joined their act in the Haly Circus.

Heller also reconfirmed that the Scarecrow (aka Jonathan Crane) will appear in several episodes this season. “This is not a kid being a loony Scarecrow,” said Heller. “This is a couple episodes about how that character has evolved—everyone’s character is formed in their childhood to some degree or another. His father is involved, as is part of the [character’s] mythology.”

However, Heller did shoot down rumors of a Harley Quinn appearance this season while hinting that she would likely appear if “Gotham” gets a second season.

“That aspect of the show—which characters to use and when — is a source of constant discussion. And that may well have been an issue that came up and was dropped. We haven’t got Harley Quinn in it. Riddler’s girlfriend is coming up. And Harley Quinn is definitely planned for later on, but so far no.”

“Gotham’s” fall finale will air this Monday on Fox.
