First Look: Henry Cavill in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is still two years away, but we’ve already got a promotional image of Henry Cavill in character as Superman, courtesy of USA Today. And what can we but… yup, that’s a Superman, alright.

Not we’re outright complaining but we’ve see Henry Cavill as Superman already in Man of Steel, and this image is just him in his already-established costume, kinda standing around. At least when Zack Snyder premiered the first image of Ben Affleck as Batman we got to see a whole new outfit, not to mention a whole new Batmobile.

Perhaps we’re supposed to be reading something into the dark and gloomy backdrop? Was that the problem with Man of Steel, that it wasn’t dark and gloomy enough? Because many people argued the opposite. This looks an awful lot like one of those moody character posters from The Dark Knight Rises, but with a Superman in it.

Then again, maybe that’s the point? Maybe they’re trying to convey that Superman is in Gotham City in this poster? If so, they could have done a better job of it. There isn’t anything in the background that screams “Gotham” to us. We can’t imagine it’ll take the internet long to at least PhotoShop a Bat Signal in the background to make it clearer.

In any case, the USA Today article also included some new quotes from director Zack Snyder about Batman v Superman, including an explanation for the “v” in the title as opposed to a “vs.” Snyder says the change was “to keep it from being a straight ‘versus’ movie, even in the most subtle way.”

Oh well done. Now there’s no confusion whatsoever.

Of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Snyder says she hasn’t filmed any scenes yet, but that she’s “working out and getting buff and ripped.”

Of Ben Affleck’s older version of Batman, Snyder adds, “It’s cooler to see a crusty old Batman beating the snot out of guys.”
