Original Cast Members Will Return for X-Men: Apocalypse

X-Men: Days of Future Past dominated the box office last weekend, but don’t look too hard for the usual Monday-morning sequel announcement: X-Men: Apocalypse was already announced last year, and promises to pit everyone’s favorite mutants against the popular comic book villain En Sabah Nur, aka “Apocalypse,” history’s first mutant in the continuity of the franchise and a force to be reckoned with for superheroes of any kind. But which mutants will face off against him? Screenwriter Simon Kinberg teased that some familiar faces will return in a new interview.

“It will focus primarily on the First Class cast, Kinberg told The Daily Beast. “But it will certainly have some of the original cast involved, too.”

After the ending of X-Men: Days of Future Past, it seemed that X-Men: Apocalypse could have followed any mutants in the franchise and gotten away with it. We wonder if fans who were excited by the promise of the latest film’s ending will be disappointed to see the X-Men: First Class cast once again take center stage, or if they prefer them to the originals nowadays. What do you think? And how do you think the old cast members are going to appear alongside the earlier versions of the team? Hugh Jackman showing up wouldn’t cause any problems, since Wolverine supposedly doesn’t age anyway, but wouldn’t James Marsden, Halle Berry and Famke Janssen be too old to realistically appear alongside James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender without time travel involved?

Or… does Simon Kinberg simply mean the original cast of characters would return, but as younger versions of themselves, completely recast in X-Men: Apocalypse? If so, who do you think would make a good younger version of Storm, Jean Grey and Cyclops?

X-Men: Apocalypse is already scheduled for release on May 27, 2016.
