Batman Gets a New Costume In DC’s Comic Book Universe

In the world of superhero comics, costume changes can happen frequently. But with the iconic characters like Superman, Spider-Man, Hulk, etc…, change often comes more gradually if it comes at all. Yesterday, DC Comics revealed the new look for Bruce Wayne’s alter-ego in Batman # 50 by writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo.

But first, some context for the image. This comes less than a year after Batman was thought to be dead in his own title. In reality, Bruce Wayne survived his battle with the Joker but lost most of his memories, including his time as Batman. To pick up the slack, former Commission, James Gordon became the new Batman, and he often used advanced armor to fight crime in Gotham City.

Gordon fell to the new villain Mr. Bloom, and Gotham was on the verge of collapse when Bruce Wayne made his dramatic return as Batman. Via Comic Book Resources, here’s Batman’s new costume!

As you can see, it’s not a huge departure from the previous Batman costume. The biggest change is that the costume adds color to the Bat symbol on his chest and his utility belt. It also appears to be somewhat streamlined from his previous outfit, with fewer unnecessary lines.

Intriguingly, Batman’s body has also been renewed by his ordeal. According to this issue, Batman’s scar tissue and previous injuries have been completely healed, and he is at his physical peak for the first time in years.

Batman # 50 is out in stores now. Batman # 51 will be released on April 13, and it will be the final issue of Snyder and Capullo’s run on the title.
