Hannibal Lecter was apparently less intimidating than Brian Cox‘s latest serial killer avatar. Playing a chilling killer in his new project, Cox made some surprising comparisons with his earlier portrayal.
The 80-year-old star transforms into Don Framt in Dexter: Resurrection. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the Scottish actor was asked about his experience of playing Hannibal Lecter in the 1986 film Manhunter. However, comparing Lecter with Framt, the veteran star made a startling admission.
Cox stated, “I was the first person to play Hannibal Lecter. I played him as what I thought was an intellectual; that he was fond of his brain was key to Hannibal. And that was easy. Hannibal Lecter was a pushover compared to Don Framt.”
What do we know about Brian Cox’s Dexter: Resurrection character?
Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection will see Cox take on the mantle of Framt, also known as the New York Ripper. Framt, a former subway employee, had a dark past. He has been constantly hunted down by the authorities, who suspected Framt of committing mass murders. Unfortunately, despite being guilty, Framt managed to evade the police, who failed to prove his guilt and thus left him unscathed.
However, now that the serial killer has aged, he can no longer take part in his notorious killing spree. But that doesn’t mean Framt is taking a break. Instead, he is constantly calling the family members of his victims and traumatizing them over the phone.
Reflecting on the character, Marcos Siega, the director-producer stated in an interaction with Entertainment Weekly, “The thing that surprised me the most is his unpredictability. We’d rehearse a scene, and then we’d roll camera, and he would do something where I’m like, what the f— is he doing? Like, I didn’t expect it. I’d call cut and go, that was f—ing incredible, and he’s like, Oh, I just wanted to try it.”
Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will premiere on October 30, 2026.
