Chuck Lorre is using his primetime television real estate to get the last word against the White House. The Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage co-creator has responded to the White House spokesperson’s recent comments about his mental health, addressing the issue by poking fun at Donald Trump in a unique way.
According to Variety, at the end of Thursday night’s Season 3 premiere of the above show, Lorre responded to Davis Ingle using a vanity card. In it, he wrote, “A spokesperson for the White House recently announced that I need psychiatric help. I don’t disagree. I’m not a big fan of mood-altering drugs or electroshock therapy, you know, ‘Cuckoo’s Nest’ stuff.”
“But I would be up for a chat with a trained professional who gently encourages me to seek out childhood experiences that negatively impact my thinking and behavior. (A possible culprit could be weekly atomic bomb drills in grade school. This involved hiding under my desk to avoid being cut to ribbons from the classroom windows imploding),” Lorre added.
The vanity card statement further read, “It might also be worth investigating if toxins in my environment bear any responsibility for my ‘derangement.’ (Can’t ignore all those mesothelioma commercials.) Regardless of how we proceed, I do appreciate this very public concern for my mental health. It’s comforting to know my government is looking out for me.”
Recently, Lorre called Trump a “Piece of S—,” which prompted a response from the spokesperson. Ingle advised Lorre to seek psychiatric help for his “severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
Chuck Lorre’s long history of using vanity cards to criticize Donald Trump
Although the vanity card addresses a new issue this time, Lorre has been using these cards to criticize Trump for over a decade now. These cards were published across various shows by him, including Dharma and Greg, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, and Mom.
For instance, in 2016, Lorre published a vanity card on The Big Bang Theory targeting the president’s campaign slogan, where he called “Make America Great Again” a “bumper sticker for victimhood.”
In Mom, the producer again used a vanity card where he openly wrote a letter to Julian Assange and urged him to hack Trump to expose corruption. This was followed by two more vanity cards for The Big Bang Theory in the same year.
Furthermore, in 2018, Lorre released another vanity card for the show where he called Trump a “fascist, hate-filled” figure and urged people to cast ballots and support Robert Mueller.
