Anna Faris says Chuck Lorre’s Mom swipe ‘hurts’ after seven seasons

Anna Faris has responded to Chuck Lorre’s critical remarks about her departure from Mom. The Big Bang Theory creator took aim at the actress in his new memoir, Sitcom. Faris played the lead role of Christy Plunkett on the CBS comedy from 2013 to 2020.

In his book, Lorre revealed he initially hesitated to cast Faris in the series. He wrote, “As the years went by, it became apparent that my initial reluctance to hire Anna was, in fact, correct. After six years, she left the show for mysterious reasons that were not mysterious to anyone on the show.”

Faris addressed the comments in an Instagram post on Friday. She wrote, “Yikes. Yes, I read a few things. I really didn’t see that coming. Of course it hurts.” The actress also acknowledged Lorre’s role in her career. She added, “Chuck gave me a job I loved, and for seven years I never took a day of it for granted.”

Lorre also explained in his memoir that his fallout with Charlie Sheen influenced his casting decisions. He wrote, “I wasn’t sure Anna would be appropriate for this kind of material.” However, he reconsidered after reflecting on the Sheen situation. He then noted, “Someone’s personal life is none of my business. The mom in Mom would be, and should be, Anna Faris.”

Despite the criticism, Faris expressed gratitude for her time on the show. She stated, “I’m proud of what we made together, and nothing changes how grateful I am for those people and those years.” The actress also shared a personal update about her recovery journey. Lorre, meanwhile, acknowledged the show’s legacy in his book. He wrote, “The last few seasons, Mom found its true voice.”
