Anya Taylor-Joy’s Lucky Apple TV Show Gets Season 2 Tease, But With a Big Catch

Anya Taylor-Joy‘s Apple TV crime thriller miniseries Lucky receives a potential Season 2 tease, but there is a catch. The showrunners, Jonathan Tropper and Cassie Pappas, broke down the show’s story and explained details about its ending.

When asked about a potential sequel in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tropper said, “If somehow one of us came up with an amazing idea, it would be worth considering.”

However, the two acknowledged that the story they wanted to tell had already been told in the limited series. Pappas said, “We have not talked about it. It definitely was designed to be a limited series, and we made sure to tie up all the loose ends as best as we could to where it was satisfying.”

Tropper added, “For me, there was such a deeply character-driven story to tell here about this father-daughter relationship and this young woman’s need to get out and start living. So sucking her into it again, you risk just trivializing all the themes we played with her.”

Jonathan Tropper also emphasized that a sequel would not carry the same gravity or stakes as the prequel. He stated that there needs to be a strong reason for sequels, acknowledging that the story told in Lucky.

How did the first season of Anya Taylor-Joy’s Lucky show end?

The story of Apple TV‘s Lucky is based on Marissa Stapley’s novel, Lucky. It follows a young con artist, Lucky, in the aftermath of a heist gone wrong. As Lucky is being chased by the dogged FBI agent Billie Rand and the ruthless crime matriarch/her mother-in-law, Priscilla, she navigates betrayals from her missing husband, Cary, and convict dad, John, all while trying to recover the millions she stole.

However, at the end of the seven-episode series, Lucky refuses to take the money, which was converted to crypto. To unlock these crypto funds, the seed phrase was hidden within a teddy bear. Lucky’s dad betrays her by leaving with the bear.

But the young con artist replaced the seed phrase with a recording addressed to her father. At the end of the finale, Lucky goes to the beach by herself, thereby ending the story.

In response to this ending, Tropper said, “From the minute we started plotting the season, we always believed that for Lucky to truly be free and take her first steps into a new life, she has to do that alone. She has to be stripped of everything in order to figure out who she is.”
