Fans can watch Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie early ahead of its release. The upcoming miniseries is scheduled to be released on Prime Video later this year. However, those interested in the horror show can watch it weeks before its streaming debut.
The first two episodes of Carrie will premiere at Fantastic Fest in September (via IndieWire). The annual genre film festival will take place at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar in Austin, Texas, between September 17-24, and will screen several horror films and shows. Flanagan’s Carrie will be among several other highly anticipated projects screened at the film festival.
What is Mike Flanagan’s Carrie show about?
Carrie was the debut novel from celebrated horror writer Stephen King. The series follows a teenage girl, Carrie White, who gains telekinetic powers after navigating a viral bullying scandal at her high school. At the start of the story, Carrie is forced into a public school following her father’s sudden demise. The upcoming miniseries recontextualizes the story for the modern age, bringing several concepts such as cyberbullying into the mix.
Carrie has been adapted several times over the years, following its publication in 1974. The first feature film adaptation in 1976 had Sissy Spacek as the lead, directed by Brian De Palma. It received a sequel and was later rebooted in 2013. The upcoming miniseries stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, who is joined by Samantha Sloyan, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, and Joel Oulette.
Flanagan will direct four of the season’s eight episodes. He is joined by Elizabeth Padden, Justina Ireland, Dani Parker, Elan Gale, Alexandra Magistro, and Rebecca Leigh Klingel in the writing department. Flanagan is also the showrunner while executive producing the series with Trevor Macy and Stephen King.
Carrie premieres on Prime Video on October 7, 2026. A preview of the same is also set for this September at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival.
