The Dutton Ranch Season 2 renewal comes with some creative changes after its showrunner’s exit.
What is the Dutton Ranch Season 2 update?
Before the renewal, Dutton Ranch’s creator, writer, and showrunner, Chad Feehan, left the show after Season 1. With a brand new season upcoming, the crew has hired a new showrunner, Benjamin Cavell.
Cavell, deemed “a veteran of shows” by The Hollywood Reporter, is the creator and writer of the 2017 TV series SEAL Team. He is also known for TV shows like Justified, The Institute, Homeland, The Stand, Godfather of Harlem, and Sneaky Pete.
The reason for Feehan’s departure was creative differences, with no other specific details. Cole Hauser, who plays Rip Wheeler in the show, commented, “Showrunners change all the time. This business is about adapting. We’ve been doing this for a long time. Things change. People move on.”
Dutton Ranch was co-created by Feehan, Taylor Sheridan, and John Linson as a spin-off of Yellowstone. It includes the cast members Hauser, Kelly Reilly, Natalie Alyn Lind as Oreana Jackson, Annette Bening as Beulah Jackson, Finn Little as Carter, Ed Harris as Everett McKinney, and Jai Courtney as Rob-Will Jackson.

The spin-off continues the story of Beth and Rip as they move to Texas from Montana. However, their past catches up, along with new enemies and issues that they must get through together to achieve the peaceful life they want.
Dutton Ranch Season 1 was a huge success, attracting 12.9 million global viewers within the first seven days, according to Paramount. The spin-off’s debut was the biggest season launch in Paramount+’s history. The season is still ongoing, with its final episode slated for a July 3, 2026, release. Besides the new showrunner, no additional cast information or release date has been put out for Season 2.
