Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman’s New Disney+ TV Show Gets First Details

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are back together for a new Disney+ TV show. The upcoming docuseries revolves around sailing, closely connected to both Hollywood stars.

What is Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s new Disney+ TV show?

Disney+ has greenlighted a new untitled TV docuseries on sailing starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The series will follow SailGP’s BONDS Flying Roos from Australia, co-owned by Jackman and Reynolds. Formerly known as the Australia SailGP Team, the crew has been a dominant powerhouse in the competition. The crew is led by driver and CEO Tom Slingsby, who’s an Olympic gold medallist, America’s Cup winner, and a three-time SailGP champion.

The show will feature behind-the-scenes, filled with humor and pressure situations, while capturing life inside one of the world’s most demanding sports leagues as the team operates as a tight-knit family built on trust and camaraderie.

“This is our first collaboration since Deadpool & Wolverine and we once again anticipate action, comedy, heart but with a lot more water. And (fingers crossed) pirates. We hope there’s pirates in SailGP,” Jackman and Reynolds said on joining the project together.

Eric Schrier, President, Direct-to-Consumer International Originals, Strategic Programming, and Emerging Media, also shared his excitement over the docuseries. He mentioned that it will give an inside view of the thrilling sport, “and what it takes to compete at the highest level. We couldn’t be more excited to bring this story to Disney+ audiences around the world.”

SailGP is a stadium-style championship where identical 50-foot catamarans race along close-to-shore courses at speeds of up to 100 km/h. The Rolex SailGP Championship brings together the sport’s top athletes, putting their best efforts and competing for a prize money of US$12.8 million.

The docuseries comes from Maximum Effort and Eureka Productions, in collaboration with SailGP and the BONDS Flying Roos team. Brent Hodge serves as the director and showrunner, with Rob Mac as the executive producer.

The untitled TV series featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will be available on Disney+ and Hulu in the U.S. It has yet to receive an official release date window.
