Marvel’s Strange Academy may have just found the hero at the center of its long-awaited story. A new insider report reveals the character rumored to lead the project as Marvel Studios begins its casting search.

Emily Bright rumored to be one of the rumored protagonists of Strange Academy
Marvel Studios is reportedly in the early stages of casting for its Strange Academy project. Insider James Mack shared the news on his Patreon, and The Comics Show posted the update on X.
Mack confirmed Emily Bright as the protagonist and Doyle Dormammu as the co-protagonist. When asked about Emily Bright’s role, he replied, “yup, protagonist.” He separately labeled Doyle Dormammu as “Co-Protagonist” in response to the character’s casting report.
Emily Bright first appeared in the 2020 Marvel Comics series Strange Academy by writer Skottie Young and artist Humberto Ramos. The character possesses magical abilities she has had since birth and reaches out to Doctor Strange for guidance. She then enrolls at his school for young sorcerers located in New Orleans.
Doyle Dormammu, the illegitimate son of the Dark Dimension’s ruler, also debuts in the same series as her fellow student and love interest. Both characters serve as the dual focal points of the comic and develop complex arcs through its run.
Strange Academy’s path to the screen has shifted multiple times over the past year. Insider Daniel Richtman previously reported that Marvel Studios considered adapting the property as a feature film alongside Champions. Marvel insider Alex Perez later revealed on The Cosmic Circus Discord that the studio now develops it as a special presentation instead. He named it alongside a Werewolf by Night sequel and Heroes-for-Hire as active projects currently in the works at the studio.
Deadline reported in February 2025 that Marvel Studios had paused work on the Strange Academy series along with Nova and Terror, Inc. However, the project has clearly regained momentum since that announcement. Perez noted in his August 2026 Q&A that the studio takes a flexible, case-by-case approach to its slate going forward. He also stated that Marvel will prioritize quality over quantity in the future. Marvel has not officially confirmed the project or commented on any casting developments.
