Donald Trump’s fixation on an Ohio senator’s backside became a punchline on Saturday Night Live. This gave Colin Jost fresh material to target the president. The comedian also turned his attention to Republican midterm election troubles and Trump’s attacks on a Democratic Senate candidate.
How Colin Jost used Trump’s Jon Husted comments on Weekend Update
During the latest Weekend Update, Colin Jost mocked Donald Trump for repeatedly commenting on Sen. Jon Husted’s physique. This came especially as Republicans prepare for a difficult midterm election. Trump had described Husted’s backside as a large mass of muscle in remarks made the previous Sunday. “His a– was like a big piece of muscle,” Trump said last Sunday. “His a–, it’s a pile of muscle,” the president added about Husted (via The Daily Beast).
Jost played a montage of the president’s comments before bringing Vice President JD Vance into the joke. He noted that Vance was “jealous that President Trump has never complimented his butt.“ “What the hell is going on?” Jost asked, questioning the exchange between the two Republicans. He then delivered a blunt message to the administration, saying, “Your party is about to lose the midterms. Stop playing smash or pass with each other!”
Republicans could be heading into the midterms with control of Congress hanging by a thread. Election analyst Nate Silver’s model puts the party’s chances of holding the House below 5%, while its odds of keeping the Senate sit at roughly 25%.
That Senate projection was particularly striking because Republicans could face losses in traditionally Republican-leaning states, including Texas, Ohio, Alaska, and Kansas. Silver also warned that South Carolina might not be a safe bet, with Republican nominee Darline Graham polling closely against Democratic challenger Annie Andrews.
Michael Che took aim at Trump’s rhetoric toward Abdul El-Sayed, the Democrat running for Michigan’s Senate seat. Che referenced Trump’s suggestion that El-Sayed should face a metal detector before entering the Senate. He then delivered a jab at the president’s own supporters, saying, “While Trump supporters just take the window.”
