Meghan Markle has faced criticism following the announcement of her participation in Junior MasterChef Australia. The show’s production company confirmed that the Duchess of Sussex will appear as a special guest in the upcoming season alongside Australian chef Poh Ling Yeow. The series is scheduled to return in 2027. Since the announcement, some commentators have questioned the move.
On the “Talk,” journalist Charlotte Griffiths slammed Markle for signing up for a show which won’t even air on primetime. “When I thought she was presenting adult’s MasterChef, I thought, ooh, that’s a bit of a sort of downturn for Meghan,” she said. “Then I realized it was the junior version. It’s the 5 p.m. one, not the primetime one.”
Furthermore, Griffiths called this move Markle’s “desperation” to stay connected to the television world. According to her, things didn’t work out for the “Suits” alum in the UK and the US. Hence, she “has resorted to going all the way over to Australia.” She also hinted that Markle might leave her family in Britain for the filming for a month.
Meanwhile, the production company shared Markle’s statement about her new gig. “I had an incredible time with the whole team at MasterChef this past April, so when they approached me to come back and work with this young group of talent, it was an easy yes,” she stated.
