Meghan Markle’s Security Row Takes an Australia Turn — Report

Australia reportedly hands Meghan Markle a cruel verdict over her ongoing security issues amid her new TV gig in the country. Earlier this year, the Duchess of Sussex appeared on Masterchef Australia as a special guest for the July 26 episode. The former Suits star is once again scheduled to appear on Junior MasterChef Australia as a special guest in 2027. However, the news of her upcoming Australia trip comes with another controversy.

Australian politicians deny giving Meghan Markle taxpayer-funded security upon her visit

Australian politicians reportedly refuse to provide Meghan Markle with taxpayer-funded security upon her visit to the country for her appearance on Junior MasterChef Australia. She will not host but only feature as a special guest on the show.

The actress will be spending several weeks in Melbourne next year to film her new TV gig, but not relocate her family there. Amid this, it appears she has to arrange for her own security. Both major political parties in Australia have rejected the idea of giving Markle state-funded security.

Australia’s Herald Sun reported that the Labour Party has categorically stated that if they are re-elected at next month’s polls, they will not foot the bill for the Duchess’ protection. Opposition Leader Jess Wilson reiterated, stating, “Not a single cent of Victorian taxpayer money should be spent on this. And under a Liberal and Nationals government I lead, it wouldn’t be.”

Meanwhiile, Prince Harry and Markle are fighting to secure taxpayer-funded security in the U.K. after moving back to the country in late August. The couple stepped down as working royals in 2020 and relocated to Montecito, California. This means they are no longer eligible for taxpayer-funded security.

Now, according to September update, the Sussexes have received approval for an official risk assessment by RAVEC. This will determine whether the couple will be eligible to receive state-funded security in the U.K. or not.
