Meghan Markle has landed a fresh Australian television role, but the trip already carries a security complication. The Duchess of Sussex will return to “Junior MasterChef Australia” in 2027 alongside Poh Ling Yeow.
However, Victoria’s major parties reportedly ruled out taxpayer-funded personal protection. Opposition Leader Jess Wilson went further, promising “not a single cent” of public money. The dispute followed Meghan’s earlier “MasterChef” appearance and raised questions about who would cover security during filming.
Meghan Markle reportedly denied even a ‘single cent’ of Australian taxpayer security for MasterChef gig
As per an Express report, the security row followed Meghan’s casting. Australia’s Herald Sun reported Victoria’s Labor government would not fund her personal protection if re-elected. Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Jess Wilson matched that position. “Not a single cent of Victorian taxpayer money should be spent on this,” Wilson said. She added, “Under a Liberal and Nationals government I lead, it wouldn’t be.” However, the Herald Sun distinguished personal protection from routine police resources needed for public safety.
Separately, Paramount Australia formally announced Meghan Markle’s television return on October 27. Its release described her as a “special guest,” rather than the program’s co-host. Poh Ling Yeow will lead the returning “Junior MasterChef Australia,” which comes back in 2027. Meghan said, “I had an incredible time with the whole team at MasterChef this past April.” When producers approached her again, she said, “it was an easy yes.” Additionally, Meghan explained, “I love cooking with my own kids.” She concluded, “I can’t wait to see what they cook up!” Paramount said her earlier appearance delivered the show’s largest Sunday audience since 2023.
Meanwhile, the Herald Sun reported filming was expected at Melbourne Showgrounds for several weeks in 2027. Whether Prince Harry and their children will accompany Meghan remains unconfirmed. The report centered on whether taxpayers would cover personal security during her extended Melbourne stay. Still, earlier precedent showed an important distinction. Victoria Police reportedly did not provide the Sussexes with direct personal protection during their previous visit. Officers were nevertheless deployed for crowd management and general public safety. For now, Meghan’s “MasterChef” return is confirmed, while her 2027 security arrangements remain undisclosed.
