Zooey Deschanel has explained why a New Girl reunion has not moved closer to becoming a reality.
During The Hollywood Reporter interview, Deschanel was asked whether fans could expect an official reunion, particularly after the cast’s recent appearance together at a charity fundraiser. The actress revealed that legal matters and the number of people involved have complicated the process.
“I don’t know because there’s a lot of legal stuff involved. There are many different entities and people involved. I wish I were the authority on that, but I’m very much not,” she said.
Although she could not offer a proper answer for a reunion, Deschanel spoke enthusiastically about reconnecting with her former co-stars.
She said, “I’m really close with everybody, though. That event was incredible, and hats off to Max [Greenfield] for getting everyone together. He worked so hard to make sure everyone could be there. It was an incredible event for Chrysalis, which is such a great organization. They do such great work, and we were thrilled to help them raise money for a great cause.”
The gathering took place on October 10, 2026, at the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball in Los Angeles. Deschanel was joined by Max Greenfield, Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris, Hannah Simone, and Damon Wayans Jr., bringing together the show’s main cast for the occasion.
Their appearance renewed interest in the possibility of seeing the actors share the screen again, though no official reunion plans were confirmed.
Outside of her acting career, Deschanel recently completed a tour with her musical band, She & Him.
